From ballads to fun-loving, upbeat Soca tunes, Sunny Jim’s songs tell stories of life on a Caribbean island. His reputation as a storytelling songwriter grows with each new release. Since 1991, James has produced and recorded five CDs of mostly original music. Four were recorded in the Cayman Islands, and his latest was released in Florida. Sunny Jim’s original songs are among his most requested. In addition to his own music, James’ repertoire includes traditional Caribbean tunes, and you can hear the musical influence of such artists as Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, and the Beatles.
We are originally from Trinidad & Tobago, which is an island off the coast of Venezuela. We are part of a musically inclined family, of which our late father, Cyril Diaz, was a famous musician in Trinidad. We started out by playing with our Dad, and later expanded on our own. Leaving Trinidad for the Bahama Islands in the early 1970's, we were discovered there by a Western New Yorker who sponsored us to come to the United States and play in his restaurant, "The Showboat", located in Buffalo, New York. Our home base is still in Buffalo. We have toured all over the continental United States, Bahama Islands, Canada, Newfoundland, Japan, South Korea and several tours in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Boyd Baker & Emily Foht from "Key West Express" join friends Mark, Denny & Steve in perfoming original and cover material. They are currently finishing up their "hook-heavy" debut album titled "Better Days", an all originals full length CD which will be out this Summer.
Mambo is a five piece group that mixes Latin, jazz, funk, and African sounds in such a way that appeals to a universal people. Classical guitar-driven Latin music at it's best. It'll make you want to get up and dance!
"... a tasteful Latin-jazz sound that's spirited yet refined, with lilting guitar lines and percussion that's busy but not over cooked." - Dave Richards 9/19/02
